A tale of two cities

I am inspired by strong colour and wanted to translate this passion into my woven fabrics. I travelled to Barcelona and was instantly drawn to Antoni Gaudi's bright, detailed and somewhat playful Barcelona. I documented colour in Casa Batlo and Park Guell but it was not until I reached the inside of La Segrada Famillia that I found my colour pallet. The breathtaking colour that reflected through the stain glass windows was bold, bright and mesmerising. On my return home to Glasgow I started to notice the use of glass in architecture around the city. I began to consider the stark contrasts between the Glasgow Buildings and that of Barcelona's La Sagrada Famillia. Glasgow's office building's use of glass is graphic with no elements of colour the main focus is structure and design and by photographing this I developed structure into my fabrics. My concept evolved into the contrasting use of glass in architecture.
